EACTAIC–ESAIC Consensus Statement

on Adult and Paediatric Fellowship Training in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

  • This document is a consensus statement between the EACTAIC and the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) on the structure and standards for high-quality Fellowship level education and training appropriate for specialised practitioners in “Adult” cardiac, thoracic, and vascular anaesthesia and intensive care (CTV-AIC) and “Paediatric cardiac anaesthesia (PCA), effective on June 4, 2022.
  • The ESAIC will recognise the EACTAIC certification for anaesthesiologists who have completed the required training at accredited EACTAIC centres hosting Fellowship programmes.
  • EACTAIC would guarantee that the graduates of these programmes meet the training standards required by the CTVAIC and PCA curricula.
SHAPING THE UPDATED PROPOSED “EACTAIC–ESAIC CONSENSUS” ON FELLOWSHIP TRAINING IN CTVAIC AND PCA
EACTAIC commits to
  • Maintain a host centre database,
  • Provide quality assurance/ accreditation/ reaccreditation.
  • Communicate with centres and fellows and provide feedback.
  • Regularly update the EACTAIC curriculums according to the needs of the fellows and faculty’s feedback.
ESAIC commits to
  • Recognise the graduates from the EACTAIC fellowship programmes at the accredited host centres.
  • Countersign the EACTAIC accreditation certificates to the host centres.
  • Countersign the EACTAIC graduation certificates.
  • ESAIC will be updated on the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the EACTAIC fellowship training through periodic updates from the EACTAIC educational chair on the status of training fellows, an anonymous summary of the graduates’ feedback, and the progress of the programmes, and new accredited training host centres. In case of concerns, both boards will liaise to discuss.
